Electronic handbook of fracture: A Java-based boundary element program for fracture analysis of multiple curvilinear cracks in the general anisotropic solids

چکیده
We have developed a Java-based boundary element program front end, the Electronic Handbook of Fracture (e-Handbook), for fracture analysis of multiple curvilinear cracks in the two-dimensional general anisotropic solids. The e-Handbook provides a graphic user interface for the preparation of the input files, runs a Fortran program for the mixed-mode fracture analysis and displays the stress intensity factors at each crack tip. The e-Handbook is available for free download at http://rci.rutgers.edu/denda/e-Handbook. The e-Handbook can be used as the electronic handbook of the stress intensity factors for custom two-dimensional crack configurations not available in the existing handbooks. 2007 Elsevier Ltd. Boundary Element Method for Mixed Mode Fracture Analysis
Denda and Marante [1] have developed the boundary element method for the mixed mode fracture analysis of multiple curvilinear cracks in the general anisotropic solids in two dimensions for which in-plane Mode I, II, and out-of-plane Mode III, of fracture are coupled. They have developed the crack tip singular element (CTSE) to model any curvilinear cracks, including center and edge cracks. The ...
متن کاملThermoelastic Fracture Parameters for Anisotropic Plates
This paper deals with the determination of the effect of varying material properties on the value of the stress intensity factors, KI and KII, for anisotropic plates containing cracks and subjected to a temperature change. Problems involving cracks and body forces, as well as thermal loads are analysed. The quadratic isoperimetric element formulation is utilized, and SIFs may be directly obtain...
متن کاملOn the crack propagation modeling of hydraulic fracturing by a hybridized displacement discontinuity/boundary collocation method
Numerical methods such as boundary element and finite element methods are widely used for the stress analysis in solid mechanics. This study presents boundary element method based on the displacement discontinuity formulation to solve general problems of interaction between hydraulic fracturing and discontinuities. The crack tip element and a higher order boundary displacement collocation techn...
متن کاملA boundary element analysis of crack-propagation mechanism of micro-cracks in rock-like specimens under a uniform normal tension
In this work, the mechanism for fracture of brittle substances such as rocks under a uniform normal tension is considered. The oriented straight micro-cracks are mostly created in all the polycrystalline materials resulting from the stress concentrations. The present work focuses on the interactions of the pre-existing micro-cracks, which can grow and propagate within a rock-like specimen. The ...
متن کاملEvaluation of Fracture Parameters by Coupling the Edge-Based Smoothed Finite Element Method and the Scaled Boundary Finite Element Method
This paper presents a technique to evaluate the fracture parameters by combining the edge based smoothed finite element method (ESFEM) and the scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM). A semi-analytical solution is sought in the region close to the vicinity of the crack tip using the SBFEM, whilst, the ESFEM is used for the rest of the domain. As both methods satisfy the partition of unity...
